[Chandler-dev] [Proposal] [Bug 11739] Ask for email address of users who download the desktop or sign up for an account

We've discussed for a while asking users who would like to  
participate in user surveys for their email address when they  
download Chandler Desktop.

In thinking about this more, I feel that "when users download" is  
perhaps a bad time to do that. It feels like one more spam-like  
barrier to getting the app and checking it out. Also, the downloader  
hasn't had a chance to look at the app and decide to give it a try.

Is there a way we could ping the user for their email address *after*  
the fact? e.g. Can we ping them when they've been using it for a week  
or so? Is this something we can do using our Auto-Check-For-Updates  
feature? Say, after 5 pings, pop-up a dialog asking the user for the  
email address along with a couple of questions so that you  
immediately understand *why* we need your email?
