Just a follow up to the meeting: my 3.5 year old notes about static  
linking are at:

Statically linking the python executable to the wx and carbon libs  
saved about half the 8 second time it took to do "from wxPython.wx  
import *"  -- from 8.5 seconds down to 4.5 seconds.
