I don't think it would be too bad, actually. Remember that in a face to
face meeting, if several people want to comment, each must wait for his
or her turn. On IRC everyone can type their comments simultaneously. And
there usually aren't that many bugs that inspire a lot of discussion;
most are clearcut in/out decision.
