Let me very clear about this: I am no Lucene expert. I've learned a bunch of 
lots of Lucene APIs by doing PyLucene but, as a Lucene user, I've done only 
very simple things. My knowledge of Lucene very specialized for getting 
PyLucene working, not for writing advanced full text applications.

The java-user at apache.lucene.org mailing is the best place to get lucene usage 
advice. I also highly recommend reading the "Lucene in action" book.
