Well, there probably is a Windows DNS setting somewhere you could use  
to make sure your hostname contains a ".". Good luck finding that ;).  
Seriously, the IT folks probably know: you could try filing a support  
ticket. If you have cygwin, maybe the "hostname" command will do the  
trick?

I think I mentioned on IRC the other day that we should think about  
having Chandler send the IP address (v4 or v6) in SMTP EHLO/HELO  
instead of the hostname. There's an allowed syntax for this in RFC(2) 
821, it's used by at least two clients I know of, and in my  
experience it works better than requiring users' client OSes to be  
configured right. (By "IP address" here, I mean the return value of  
socket.getpeername(), i.e. the source IP address of the connected  
socket).
